Stability in South Caucasia Workshop is in Istanbul

Regional Stability in the South Caucasia Workshop is going to be held in Istanbul on 20-22 March 2014 under “From Self-Defence to Regional Disarmament: Reducing Tensions and Stabilising the South Caucasus” main theme. Stability & security in S. Caucasia, the critical importance of where has increased after the developments in Ukraine and Crimea will be discussed.

Regional Stability in South Caucasia Workshop, to be participated by experts, academicians, diplomats and researchers within the cooperation of Austrian Ministry of Defence and Sport, PfP (Partnership for Peace) Consortium and Turkish Asian Centre For Strategic Researches, will be organized on 20-22 March 2014 at Peak Hotel in Istanbul.

From Turkey, opening key spokesman Deputy Ministry of EU Alaattin BÜYÜKKAYA, TASAM Chairman Süleyman ŞENSOY, TASAM Vice-Chairmen Ambassador (R) Murat BİLHAN and Prof. Dr. Esra HATİPOĞLU, Bahçeşehir University Academician Prof. Dr. Nilüfer NARLI, Ambassador (R) Ümit PAMIR and TASAM expert Hazar VURAL will participate in the meeting.

Three workshops, which had been performed previously on 9-11 November 2012 at Reichenau-Austria, on 13-15 Marc 2013 at Tiflis, Georgia and lastly on 7-9 November 2013 again at Reichenau with the cooperation of PfP Consortium that was established with the participation of about 280 national defence universities and institutions throughout the World, have revealed that the Work Group formed a large academic base in order to ensure unity immediately.

Regional Stability at South Caucasia Workshop will give the opportunity for the experts to develop and express opinions for ensuring stability by means of civilization and tension reduction, while providing the opportunity to present these ideas to the regional stakeholders for evaluation. These efforts aim to make solid achievements on the way of reducing local problems as well as to clear these elements from the tools of threat. Moreover, this situation provides a larger area for the national budget manoeuvres of the main actors in the Region and makes it possible for the governments to balance public expenditures for more social services, without encountering to public dissatisfaction.

The sub-topics of Regional Stability in the South Caucasia Workshop with the main theme of “From Self-Defence to Regional Disarmament: Reducing Tensions and Stabilising the South Caucasus” have been determined as “Individual Self-Defence and the State: Establishing Trust towards an Effective Social Contract”, “Security in the Break-away Regions: How much of a Monopoly on the Use of Force?”, “Security Competition among the South Caucasus States: Racing towards Disaster?” and “The South Caucasus as Nexus of Large Powers’ Security Dilemma”

During the Regional Stability in South Caucasus Workshop, the introduction speech of which will be made by Andreas F. WANNEMACHER from the Directorate General of Security Policies from the Austrian Ministry of Defence and Sport and welcome speeches of which will be made by TASAM Vice-Chairman Ambassador (Ret.) Murat BİLHAN and Ambassador Heidemaria GÜRER from Austrian Ministry of Europe and International Relations, the presidency and moderator roles will be carried out by Lieutenant Colonel Ernst M. FELBERBAUER from Austria Academy of National Defence, George NICULESCU from European Geopolitics Forum, Nilüfer NARLI from Bahçeşehir University, R. Craig NATION from Dickinson University, Lieutenant Colonel Ernst M. FELBERBAUER from Austria Acadeymy of National Defence and Frederic LABARRE, the RSSC SG Co-Chair of Security Administrative Unit. Workshop speakers are composed of prominent names from Europe, America and countries in the region.
